Many chocolate manufacturers consider Madagascar cocoa to be one of the best cocoa beans in the world. It is therefore not surprising that many bean to bar craft chocolate makers use this cocoa. The cocoa beans used by Krak Chocolade are slightly different from those of the other chocolate manufacturers as they come from Ottange Farm.
The Ottange Farm is located on the Ramena River in northwest Madagascar in the Sambirano Valley. The Ottange Farm belongs to the Mava plantations and is the smallest of the eight plantations. In 2017, Ottange Farm won the International Cocoa Awards. About 6 tons of cocoa beans are grown here every year. Most of it is used by the owners, the Ramanandraibe family, to make their own chocolate. A small part is sold, Krak Chocolate is lucky enough to be able to make their fantastic bars out of them
